Re: Pro-Ship and Anti-Ship
I don't like "loli" porn but I also don't think it's worth the energy to get mad about cartoons when real people are being abused in real life. I also know that the subject of fiction's interaction with reality and the human psyche is complicated and I don't think it's my place to make claims about it when I am not an expert or even formally educated on it. I also know that my own interests can be considered "problematic" to some (for example, many non-furries consider furry porn to be no different than fictional bestiality), so I don't feel like it's my place to judge others or apply that same label to them.
My philosophy is the old fandom adage "don't like, don't read." Or don't look, I guess. I just stay away from people and works that make me uncomfortable and don't talk about it unless real people are being harmed in real life. Stressing over whether or not someone likes something that makes me uncomfortable is damaging to my mental health and a waste of time, because one guy saying it's gross isn't going to convince anyone to stop making it.
If my feelings about this make you uncomfortable, please feel free to block me. If we are or were close and you'd like to talk to me directly about it, you're welcome to.
Some people will say "Isn't that what pro-ship literally means?" and the answer is yes, but unfortunately if you use that label it makes people (on both sides) think you're into that stuff so I don't use it for myself. I also don't like the association with drama that comes with it.
